WH1 is for players with movement affected to a high degree on one side of the body, to the mid-trunk and legs with some also affected at a low level in the trunk and arms, or the absence of limbs.

They play on a half-width court and may hold onto wheelchair with one hand when playing a shot for balance. These players maintain a sitting position by holding the rim of the wheelchair with the non-playing hand.
